| The Cao De Agua, as named in its country
of origin, was considered a full crew member by fishermen on the coast
of Portugal. Valuable auxiliary during fishing season: guard the ship,
retrieve objects in the water, etc. and during winter, it could also
look after the herd. Thus, it developed abilities as a guardian dog,
herd dog as well as a retriever. |

| The Portuguese Water Dog became
a wonderful companion dog deserving to be known and appreciated
better. It is very active until the age of 2 and with the proper
education will become a wonderful companion for the whole family.
It’s a dog with an excellent eye sight, a keen sense of smell
and a great intelligence. It’s playful, energetic and robust
in and out of the water. It needs a large living space and a lot
of exercise. |
