The Portuguese Water Dog

The Cao De Agua, as named in its country of origin, was considered a full crew member by fishermen on the coast of Portugal. Valuable auxiliary during fishing season: guard the ship, retrieve objects in the water, etc. and during winter, it could also look after the herd. Thus, it developed abilities as a guardian dog, herd dog as well as a retriever.

The Portuguese Water Dog became a wonderful companion dog deserving to be known and appreciated better. It is very active until the age of 2 and with the proper education will become a wonderful companion for the whole family. It’s a dog with an excellent eye sight, a keen sense of smell and a great intelligence. It’s playful, energetic and robust in and out of the water. It needs a large living space and a lot of exercise.
